Education: Ateneo de Manila University - B.S. Physics 1969, California Institute of Technology - Ph.D Applied Physics 1975.

Thirty-two years of R&D experience with Hughes Research Laboratories. Retired in 2003 as Director of Communications Research with responsibilities for Innovation Strategy, Acquiring Funding for Research from the Owners (Raytheon, Boeing and GM), and execution of Research Programs with collaborators world-wide. Greg Tangonan has 49 U.S. patents has published over 100 papers in international journals in the fields of fiber optics, integrated optics, wireless communications, smart antenna systems using RF MEMS and laser communications. He and presented papers at international conferences. He won the prestigious R&D 100 Award twice for all-optical switching modules and secure fiber optic systems.

After retiring from HRL Laboratories, Greg Tangonan co-founded Wireless MEMS, Inc., a start-up company based in Westlake, California that is developing Silicon based RF MEMS switches for improved antenna performance and multi-band access. He is President of Asia Pacific Technical Strategies, his own consulting company that operates in California and the Philippines.He started a new company in the Philippines - Futurist Innovation, Inc.- that is forming engineering projects teams that attack multi-disciplinary problems like sustainable energy and environment and personal medical database deployment in rural communities

Greg Tangonan joined Ateneo de Manila University as Professor in the School of Science and Engineering. The research groups he works with span numerous technologies - biomedical devices and subsystems, wireless logistics for supply chains, real monitoring and alerting of disasters, and smart energy solutions. He is the Director of the newly formed Ateneo Innovation Center - which is formed to provide the interface for industry and investors to interact with the multi-disciplinary research efforts of the Ateneo Innovation Center.
